Termites are well known in southeast Queensland for causing significant damage to homes and businesses. These pests can go unnoticed for weeks and months, eating timber in properties unbeknown to the homeowner.
Typically, this type of damage is not covered under your home insurance, so you will have to foot the repair build which can go into the tens of thousands. So it’s absolutely critical that a termite inspection is done on a yearly basis under Australian Standards.
What’s included in a termite inspection?
An annual inspection by a qualified timber pest technician will ensure the security of your home. Your technician will visit your home and conduct a thorough inspection of the property inside and out. This includes traditional methods such as including a sounding device that will be used to tap the timber and listen for changes in the depth of the internal timber. Visual inspections are also done to locate external termite activity in tree stumps, stored timber and fences. In addition, they will use modern technology with the Termatrac T31 device that detects moisture and thermal temperature changes inside a wall cavity.
The inspection will take around two hours to complete. At the end of the inspection, your technician will provide you with a detailed report on their findings. If termites are found, they will offer you options to remove the termites and set up a barrier to protect the home ongoing.
A termite check is not the same as a termite inspection and fails to thoroughly inspect a home for termites.
