Recent heavy rains and hot, humid days are the perfect climate for pests, seeking shelter and food inside homes and businesses.
Pests such as ants, cockroaches, spiders and mosquitoes thrive in these conditions and can quickly infest a property. Bringing in stored boxes of your Christmas tree, decorations can also bring in pests who have happily lived in the boxes for months.
Recently we received a call from a customer in West End who discovered just that. They had set up the tree and other items and started seeing cockroaches and ants scurrying around their home in high numbers at night.
Fortunately, we were able to locate the source of the problem and apply a treatment to stop the cockroaches and ants fast. Our customer has advised a week later that the pests are nowhere to be seen.
What Pests Are Active Now
As mentioned, there are a number of active pests at this time of year across Brisbane suburbs.
Cockroaches, ants, mosquitoes, spiders, wasps are all active now. This is a typical occurrence as these pests breed during the summer months in Australia. Unfortunately, they like to do this in our homes much to our dislike.
The only sure-fire way to get them under control and out of your home is to use a professional pest control service. Supermarket or products purchased at Bunnings are not as effective as professional products. They do not have the same chemical makeup to stop pests long term and they are often expensive to buy.
Your pest technician is highly trained and qualified to assess pest activity and apply the right treatments to get rid of pests for six to 12 months.
Other pests to consider are termites. You might have seen what looks like a flying ant, circling around lights in your home at night. These are called Alates. They are a flying termites that are seeking a mate to establish a colony outside.
The main cause for concern here is that they can establish a termite colony outside a home that can then attack the home and cause significant damage. If you are seeing these pests, contact us today to arrange an inspection.
