Recently a homeowner in Logan Village called us as they were concerned about termites and protection for their home.
Termites are well known in South-East QLD for causing significant damage to homes that are not covered by your home insurance.
A trained timber pest professional will be able to identify the presence of termites and implement steps to stop these pests in their tracks. In this post, we look at the termite situation we faced and how we treated the home.
Termites in Logan Village
When we arrived on-site at the home, we found that the termite chemical barrier/zone had expired 20 years ago. With that we submitted a treatment proposal to install a new termite chemical barrier/zone and a few days later we were on site to install the treatment using Termidor.
The treatment consisted of a termite inspection to the structure followed by both drill and inject into concrete areas and trench and inject to soil areas around the perimeter of the home, upon completion of the treatment we were able to have the home looking like we were never there.
This barrier will last for several years and will require a maintenance ‘top-up’ to ensure the protection is up to date and working well.
We also provided a full written report on the work done for our customer, detailing the steps taken and treatment used.
Chemical Barriers
Chemical barriers to prevent the access of termites into the wall and roof timbers have been placed around buildings and under concrete slabs in Australia since 1954.
The chemicals are applied as aqueous emulsions (oil suspended in water) to a trench dug in the soil around a building. As the soil is replaced the emulsion is applied so that the chemical is distributed throughout the soil forming a complete barrier. Termites will not pass through the soil while the chemical remains active and at a minimum concentration level.
Signs Of Termites
Finding active termites around your home can be concerning. Common places they can be found include timber fences, air conditioner water waste pipes and stored timber. Termites will create mudding to reach these areas and set up their home.
A qualified timber pest technician has the skills to know where to look and the tools to locate termites. This includes traditional methods of timber sounding devices and moisture and thermal devices. These tools can locate termites behind walls and in structural timbers in a home.
Termite Inspections
Annual termite inspections are the best way to protect your home or business from these pests.
The inspection costs $230.00 and takes approximately two hours to complete. We will inspect your home inside and out to find any active termites using the tools mentioned. We will provide a thorough report on the inspection together with treatment options should we find active termites.
